RISING HEROIN OVERDOSES IN THE STATE OF KENTUCKY
The heroin epidemic continues to rise and worsen as years go by in cities across the United States of America. In 2016, the drug overdose deaths in Kentucky hit a new high due to the rising abuse of heroin with state records of 1,404 overdose deaths from 1248 in 2015 according to the Office of drug control policy. In February this year, Kentucky reported approximately 151 overdoses over a period of 4 days and 52 of them being within a 32-hour session. The rise has been attributed to the introduction of synthetic opiod fentanyl, which is a new substance mixed up with heroin that’s gets individuals very high at a very fast rate compared to the normal heroine sold in the streets. The new substance is now in high supplies in Kentucky and is said to be more addictive compared to heroine alone.
